About Us

After discovering the lack of quality early childhood development programs in Jamaica, Learning Ladder Early Childhood Development Centre was founded in 2009, by Shachea Christie and Kelly Amritt, to provide childcare, preschool, and school-age education services to children, six months through 5 years. With over 10 years of combined experience in the child care field, the owners have taken meticulous care in designing a stimulating program, where children will not only acquire new skills, but will grow emotionally, socially, intellectually, creatively, and physically.

Ms. Jerome King works as a consultant with Learning Ladder and specializes in early childhood education and curriculum development. Ms. King is a graduate of Shortwood Teachers' College and North Eastern University in Boston, Massachusetts, where, after what she describes as "four wonderful years" of learning, she moved to New York to begin working. She has been an educator for more than 25 years, reaping early success as a specialist in early childhood education. In New York, she spent over 13 years educating children and held positions such as the Director of the Head Start Program in Westchester County, which was the flagship program in early childhood education during the late 1980’s. Returning to Jamaica in 1997, Ms. King made a contribution through HEART, the National Training Agency, by helping to create their certificate program in early childhood education. Ms. King is also the former principal of Priory Preparatory School, and Acting Director of Belair Preparatory School, where her leadership was marked by out-of-the-box thinking and the involvement of everyone in the process of development and change.

Our facility offers a safe and friendly learning environment for children, with trained and caring personnel and staff, nutritious snacks, and progressive learning materials. At Learning Ladder, we are dedicated to providing children with the opportunities to discover their individual talents. Children are encouraged to learn by investigating and exploring topics that interest them, and benefit from the highest quality-enriched program in small classes with personalized instruction and attention to individual needs.
